Long-serving British techno hero Ben Sims will spin in the Drumcode Arena at South West Four festival in London this Sunday.
With the Londoner's debut album 'Smoke & Mirrors' due to drop on Adam Beyer's imprint in October, the festival will be the perfect setting to hear and feel the force of Ben Sims' special brand of raw, heavy techno.
Here in this exclusive interview, we chat to Ben Sims about his upcoming SW4 DJ set.
How do you feel about playing at SW4?
Although I play festivals all over Europe this will actually be the first time that I've ever played a festival in London so I'm really looking forward to it.
London's my home so I always enjoy spinning here and the crowds are always very responsive. It should be a good one!
How does a festival set differ from a club set for you?
Obviously at clubs, with longer sets it's safer to experiment with new material than at a festival but I'll still be dropping my usual mix of new, old and unreleased music, plus the odd special edit for good measure.
With your Drumcode album 'Smokes & Mirrors' due to drop in October, will your SW4 set include some of your album material?
Yes definitely, it's almost impossible for me not to drop album tracks to be honest as I'm very happy with how it all came out. So I imagine my DJ sets will be soaked in album cuts for a while. If you're looking to hear a sneak preview of 'Smoke & Mirrors' SW4 is a good place to start!
What DJ set up will you use at SW4?
I play both CDs and vinyl, so I'll be using two Pioneer CDJ-2000s, and two Technics 1200 MK5 G, which will all run through a Pioneer DJM-900 mixer.
What's your one big tune for SW4?
Exium 'Complex' (Rolando Remix).
